On may 5th, 2004, I left San Francisco and headed east.
The destination was New York, and the intention, to find street musicians on the way...
I arrived in New York City 50 days later, with 30 hours of recordings.

On my first night, I ran into shadow. He was curled up on the side of the road, near Santa Cruz. He was hungry and had a bad leg. I stepped out of the car, and asked him if he wanted to come along. Even though his back leg was bad, he limped his way to me.
Shadow was the best road companion. He would bite me when I fell asleep at the wheel, claw me in the morning to wake me up... I thought that I lost him on a few occassions but he always came back. We went on hikes togother, camped in the wild, hung out on the streets of New york. He swam in hot springs in New Mexico, played around camp fires in Pennsylvania, was a movie star in Los Angeles.
He flew back with me to San Francisco and is now living with Francis, another great California cat

aOnce again, I was lucky. Plans for taking a range rover across the country fell through and I was left with nothing a week before departure. A few days later, I found this vanagon on Craigslist. The price was right and I needed a ride. The risk of breaking down was high but I had a good feeling about it.
I took it slow, and steady, and sure enough, 7000 miles later, a few gallons of oil, I made it to New York. I was screaming driving across the Washington Bridge. And a few days later, I sold it in the busy streets of New York.
I slept in driveways, residencial neighborhoods, parking lots, truck stops, national parks, and ends of roads....http://69.12.151.20:9256/uploads/pics/van.jpg
